If you have symptoms and aren't sure what's causing them, the best step is to get a full STI screen at a sexual health clinic or your GP. A full screen covers all the common infections at once — you don't need to know which one you might have.
Irish sexual health clinics are free, confidential, and non-judgmental. If you're between 16 and 25, Brook Ireland in Dublin offers free services specifically for young people.
Find a Testing Clinic Near YouWhat Does a Full STI Screen Include?
A standard STI screen at an Irish sexual health clinic will typically test for:
- Chlamydia and gonorrhea (urine test or genital swab)
- Syphilis (blood test)
- HIV (blood test)
- Hepatitis B and C (blood test)
- Herpes (if you have visible sores — swab test)
- Additional tests on request: mycoplasma genitalium, trichomoniasis, anal/throat swabs
Ask your clinic what's included in your screen — panels vary. If you want to be tested for something specific, mention it when you book or arrive.
